Ultrasound

Plymouth Heights Pet Hospital just purchased a State of the Art Ultrasound unit called Lumify to help with diagnostics for your pets. Ultrasonography is an imaging technique used to visualize subcutaneous body structures, including tendons, muscles, joints, vessels, and internal organs for possible pathology or lesions. As opposed to x-rays, which give a two-dimensional view, ultrasonography provides three-dimensional images allowing a complete view of the internal organs.

Interpreting ultrasounds is not an easy task. The performance of ultrasonography is an art form, and much experience is needed to become good at it. Our doctors have received training to learn the basics of ultrasonography and continue to become more proficient through ongoing experience and continuing education.

If we suspect a case may be beyond our ultrasonography skill level, we will call in or refer to the experts. These are doctors whose only job is to perform and interpret ultrasounds. We also have the ability to send ultrasonographic images through the web to diagnostic imaging specialists when needed.
